Earth Shapes is a new phase in Maika Garnica's research. Again she works with natural materials in a playful and almost self-evidently light way. Doing so, she questions our use of these materials, and she thematizes the difficult attempt of man to connect with his environment. Excavated materials are used to generate sounds. Maika Garnica plays these Earth Shapes as musical instruments in live performances. The sounds she produces breathe out the ground. She investigates the earth and the nature of sound as a connecting factor, she marvels at the sounds it produces and thus passes on that amazement to the audience.
